If your travels lead you to Jaco, get ready for some incredible adventures!
Horseback Riding on the Beach: Imagine riding along the beach at sunrise or sunset—there’s nothing quite like it! While you can ride horses all over the world, Jaco offers a unique experience with its friendly locals and well-trained horses. Whether you choose a peaceful beach ride or an adventurous trek up the mountainside through the rainforest, the breathtaking views are worth every moment. This is a fantastic activity for the whole family, but be sure to check age restrictions when booking.
ATV Through the Rainforest to Waterfalls: For an exhilarating adventure, we recommend trying an ATV tour through the lush rainforest and up the mountains. As people who had only ever been passengers on dirt bikes before, this was a thrilling and unforgettable experience. The guides and fellow riders were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Riding through nature, feeling the tropical breeze, and reaching the serene waterfall was truly special. This is also family-friendly, so check age limits and options, which might include a delicious meal!
Manuel Antonio National Park: Located on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, Manuel Antonio National Park is a must-visit. Surrounded by pristine white-sand beaches, dense rainforest, and diverse wildlife, it’s a paradise for nature lovers. We spotted monkeys, sloths, colorful birds, and more as we explored the park’s two main beaches, Playa Espadilla Sur and Playa Manuel Antonio. Guided tours are available, and outside the park gates, you can find handmade crafts, local food, and even a hotel for a convenient stay.
Jaco Sign: Don’t miss the iconic Jaco sign, located in the southern part of town. It’s a perfect spot for memorable photos and is easily accessible. If you’re without a car, taxis are readily available, and some tour drivers can even make a quick stop for you.
Daily Walks and Hikes: Costa Rica’s natural beauty makes it ideal for daily walks and hikes. Enjoy the fresh air, friendly locals, and stunning views as you explore the beaches and trails. And the best part? It’s free! Be sure to catch the spectacular sunsets each evening—they’re truly a sight to behold.
El Miro: If you’re staying in or near Jaco, take a hike up the El Miro trail. This unfinished structure, rumored to have been intended as a restaurant or home, offers one of the best views of Jaco Beach. It’s a free, self-guided adventure that combines nature, art, and history. Remember to bring water and enjoy the journey!
Tárcoles River: For a unique experience, visit the Tárcoles River to see crocodiles in their natural habitat. You can either join a tour or simply park near Tárcoles Bridge to view the crocodiles and other wildlife from above. There are food options nearby, making it a great stop if you’re heading further south.
